All The Met Gala Trends That You Can Incorporate Into Your Big Day

If you’re like us, then once a year, you cuddle up in your athleisure and sip a glass of wine while you critique the good, bad, and the seriously unhinged looks on the Met Gala red carpet. For us, it’s practically work because we need to stay up on the latest trends in fashion, and while all of these looks may be a little extreme, boil them down a bit and you’ll see that the same trends are popping up in bridal. Look closely and see if you can see it too…

  1. The Naked Dress

As usual, there was A LOT of skin on the red carpet this year. Maybe they were going for an Adam & Eve, Garden of Eden vibe. And while we may not recommend going completely commando like these celebs, don’t be afraid to show some skin on your big day. Want to get the look but leave a little bit more to the imagination? Go with a dress that has a skin tone lining like these two from Casablanca.

2. Structured Mermaid Silhouette

When it comes to silhouettes, each one has its season, and now it’s the mermaid’s turn to shine once more. Everywhere you looked on the red carpet, there was a figure-hugging mermaid gown. This particular silhouette never goes out of style and truly looks good on every figure. With the right corsetry, it cinches the waist and holds everything else in place too. Then with some decorative tiers or delicate draping, you can make the look as detailed or as simple as you’d like. We loved the off-the-shoulder neckline on Gigi Hadid’s gown and the dramatic ruffled skirt and thought it looked strikingly similar to Elie by Casablanca.

Zendaya, stunning as always, wore a dramatic asymmetrical mermaid gown with a structured corset and 3-D embellishments. Check out the Fernande gown from Casablanca–same vibes, right?

3. Cape Trains

While fitted silhouettes were dominating, that didn’t mean the looks were any less dramatic. In fact, to make up for their slim silhouettes, many of the looks sported dramatic tulle cape trains, because when one may wear a train, we believe one should. We loved the combination of these two lace and tulle looks. Capes are also a great alternative for a bride who wants all of those wedding feels but doesn’t want to wear a veil. At Savvi we have plenty of cool cape options but we’re currently crushing on this beauty from Casablanca that features some stunning branch embroidery.

Or get this look by pairing the Nicolette by Casablanca with a cathedral-length black veil. You could wear it traditionally in your hair or have it turned into a detachable cape by one of our talented alterations specialists.

4. Veils

Talking about accessories, veils were also out in full force at the Met Gala. While blushers (the part of the veil that covers the face) have been waiting in the wings for a while now, we expect to see more brides opting for this more traditional look in the coming months, a la Lana Del Rey. If the face coverage isn’t your style, we also have a ton of pretty, minimalist veils that just fall in the back, like this fingertip-length beaded veil from MoriLee.

5. Colorful Florals

With a theme like “Garden of Time”, we were expecting to see plenty of color and florals, and the celebs and designers did not disappoint. We love these two looks that combine ivory and a whole spectrum of colorful flowers that are giving bridal a playful twist. The color palettes really resemble the Persephone from MoriLee and the Lily from Casablanca.

Don‘t Forget Your Girls

While you and your fiancé(e) are definitely the main characters at your wedding, the trends can apply to everyone. So keep all of these ideas in mind when you’re shopping for bridesmaid dresses and even for your moms. We love the 3-D florals on this gray tulle dress and the classic lace and dramatic flutter sleeve on this emerald green mermaid dress.
