Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress

There’s a lot that goes into planning the perfect wedding of your dreams. It’s your one special day, and you want to make sure that you create memories that will last for years to come. Obviously, you want to look great, and one of the main things that can take a while is finding the perfect dress. After the “I do’s” have been said, the first dance has passed, and your guests have showered you with love and good fortune, you will be happy that you chose the perfect fit.  Many brides see this as a very stressful process, but if you know where to look, this can turn into quite a fun experience.

This week is The National Bridal Sales Event, a once a year event where brides can choose from a large selection of gowns at deeply discounted prices and take them home right away.  In honor of The National Bridal Sales Event, we asked a number of recent brides about their experiences and how best to prepare for the Big Day. They gave us a few tips that we’re going to share with you below.

Try a Bit of Everything

Try on as many dresses as you need, you may be surprised. One bride told us that she went into the bridal shop and found a dress that was the complete opposite of what she thought she wanted. It turns out that she actually loved it, and to top that off, it looked beautiful in her bridal photos as well. Once the dress comes off the hanger, it will have a completely different shape, which is why it is important to have many options.

Cameras

Many stores do not permit picture taking, but if they do, then snap away.  Snapping a few pics on your phone can help you get a good visual of what the dress looks like on you from all angles. We spoke with one bride that said, “It was great to be able to share some photos with close friends and relatives.” Not only was she able to get a better idea of what works best, this allowed them to feel like they were a part of the decision-making process.

Listen to Your Heart

This sounds like a pretty obvious one, and yet many women can often feel pressured or even overwhelmed. Imagine finding a dress that you love, only to see how another dress may look on someone else. You may start second-guessing yourself, which is all too common. Some advice from one of our other brides is DON’T do that. She explains how she almost missed out on an amazing dress but chose to go with her gut instead. She says, “If it’s there, and you love it, buy it!” Look no further! Your dream dress may be the first dress you try on, you never know.

Know Your Budget

One recent bride told us how she was almost in tears after falling in love with a dress and then realizing it was outside her budget.  Fortunately, after talking things over with her parents and fiancé, they figured out a way to adjust their budget to fit the dress by trimming back a bit on other things like flowers and catering.  But her advice was to know your budget and avoid trying on dresses that are unrealistically outside your price range.  Unless you are one of the few fortunate enough to have no limits, budgeting is an important part of planning a successful wedding.  These days, there are many great options at different price points, and there’s nothing better than finding that gorgeous Kate Middleton inspired dress within your budget price!
