Which Corset-Style Top is Right for You?

Casablanca

From the runway to Instagram, corsets are currently breaking the internet. Perhaps we have Bridgerton to thank for everyone’s latest obsession and tbh, we’re not mad about it. Our hot take? Corsets (at least how we know them today) are amazing? And we’re not talking about your great-grandmother’s barely enough room to breathe, faint-inducing corsets. We’re talking about beautifully structured bodices that are as functional and comfortable as they are fashionable.

So, you want a gown with a corset? Let’s talk options…

Corset for Support

Casablanca

Most of the gowns we carry (especially the strapless ones) have corsetry built into the dress, whether you see it or not. So, even if you don’t want the corset look, you can still have the support of a beautiful boned bodice that will stay up and hold everything in place as you dance the night away.

Exposed Boning

Some corsetry is just so intricate and beautiful in its own right that designers can’t help but show it off. So, many of our corseted gowns feature “exposed boning”, which just means that you can see where the boning is placed throughout the bodice. Some designs feature the boning prominently and some are hidden slightly under layers of lace or tulle, but either way, a bodice with exposed corsetry creates visual interest and a slimming silhouette.

Lace-up Corset

Lace-up bodices are trending right now, which just means that instead of a zipper (or sometimes in addition to) your gown will close via lacing. The best part about lace-up corsets is that they allow for a perfect skin-tight adjustable fit. You will still likely need alterations to make your gown fit perfectly, but this will minimize the amount of work your alterations specialist will need to do on the bodice, which is the most time-consuming (aka expensive part). Plus, a lace-up corset evokes romantic vintage vibes from a bygone era and can add to your overall wedding theme.

Bra-top Corset

Sexy and super functional, bra-top corsets are bodices that feature cups and boning and usually even underwire. They are great for brides who are worried about having enough bust support.

Basque Waist

Corsets also come with different cuts and waistlines. Natural waists are the most common, usually falling just above your belly button. But, right now basque waists are trending which means that the corset and boning dip down in the front creating a “v” or “u” shape, enhancing an hourglass silhouette.
